Fermenter for production of biogas from solid biomass and percolate, fitted with a flexible separator which is pressed down onto the fermentation residue to displace biogas before the residue is removed

A fermenter with a digestion tank (4) in a large container (2) for the production of biogas from solid biomass and percolate so that only a fermentation residue remains, in which the biogas in the tank (4) is displaced before emptying the residue by using a pressure difference between the tank (4) and an air space (3) to press a gastight separation layer onto the residue and keep it completely in the tank (4). An independent claim is included for a method for the production of biogas in a fermenter (1) as above, by filling the digestion tank (4) with biomass (5), sealing the tank (4) (airtight) and connecting it to a suction line (9), spraying the biomass with percolate (11), fermenting the biomass until it shrinks to a residue (15) and drawing off the biogas so as to produce a pressure difference as biogas production abates, leaving a separating layer on the fermentation residue (15) to displace the remaining biogas, admitting ambient air into the tank (4), opening the gate (8) to the tank (4), removing the residue (15) and refilling the tank (4) with fresh biomass (5).
