Either or both the 3D graphic data set and the 2D DSA (11') of a vascular structure are divided into segments. The segments are assigned to the vascular structure or are assigned to the background. The 2D DSA is registered with the 3D graphic data set. A projection of the 3D graphic data set on an image plane in a first projection direction is computed to produce a computed projection image (14'). The computed projection image is compared with the 2D DSA. The 3D graphic data set is automatically changed for adaptation of the computed projection image to the 2D DSA. An independent claim is included for a computer program product.
