The headlight (20) has a projection lens (26) to project a part of light beams at a diaphragm (25) before a vehicle, and electromagnets (31) for moving the diaphragm between two positions. A controller (36) is adapted to control the switching process between dimlight and bright light and for controlling of the electromagnets for moving the diaphragm. The controller controls the process such that increase and/or decrease of a beam limit occur continuously and the process lasts for a time period in which the diaphragm is moved by the electromagnets.
