The method involves utilizing remote sensing data, which are obtained from remote sensing images of an area to be monitored by satellites (1) or a zeppelin (2), where the data pertain to trajectories of a vehicle e.g. truck (7). Terrestrial vehicle data inclusive of identification characteristics of the vehicle are detected by an identification unit (4) e.g. terrestrial sensor. The terrestrial data are temporally synchronized with the remote sensing data so that a clear assignment of the vehicle data to location-obtained identification data of the vehicle is obtained. An independent claim is also included for a system for performing a vehicle movement detecting method, comprising a synchronizing device.
