The method involves having a sensor (4) to monitor a sheet pile lateral positions and compared with a nominal position (SB) to identify deviations. The deviation is balanced with a device (3). Advance control of the sheets (1) is provided after receiving the signals from the sensor and before printing starts. The sheets are aligned and an edge sensor (6) is provided to monitor the position of the sheets with an angle table (7) provided. An independent claim is included for a device.
