A reactor for the batchwise polycondensation of polymers comprises a horizontal cylindrical housing (4) with inlet and outlet (2, 3) and a hollow cylindrical rotor (5) supported by stub axles (projecting through the reactor walls) and a bearing system, and with annular film-forming elements (6) on the rotor (5) and scrapers (7) extending into the housing (4) between the elements (6) as far as the rotor (5), the reactor (1) being in the form of a heatable, evacuatable and pressure-tight autoclave. An independent claim is included for a method for the batchwise polycondensation of oligomers/monomers using a reactor as described above.
