The method involves storing data i.e. multimedia data, with a dictionary-based algorithm in a permanent memory (4) of an embedded device (2) i.e. control module, in a compressed manner. The data is decompressed in a volatile memory (6), and initialized variables of a program code are stored in a compressed manner. A modified LZ77 compression process is utilized for compressing the data in accordance to Lempel and Ziv, where the entire method is implemented under utilization of 16 bit symbols. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for handling data in a device (2) a computer program with program code medium for implementing a method for handling data (3) a computer program product with program code medium for implementing a method for handling data.
