The measuring sensor (1) has a monitoring unit (6) provided for detecting whether and/or when a test activation takes place at the measuring sensor. The measuring sensor is activated for functional testing using a test activating signal (Test) by a test activating unit, and the developed signals are evaluated. The monitoring unit detects the presence of the test activation signal at the input of the measuring sensor or at an input of the test activation unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a measuring sensor.
