The method involves evacuating of a cooling reservoir (4) of a heat exchanger i.e. evaporator (1) up to a predetermined low pressure, which amounts to 20 to 200 millibars. A cooling storage medium is filled into the reservoir by sucking and without supplying a filling side with pressure. A desired amount of the storage medium is filled in a reservoir before or during evacuating of the cooling reservoir, which is connected to a single connection. A part of lines is partially released from the cooling reservoir by a unit used for producing low pressure after filling the cooling reservoir. An independent claim is also included for a device for filling a cooling reservoir of a heat exchanger i.e. evaporator, for a motor vehicle-air conditioning system with a cooling storage medium.
