The method involves pumping fuel e.g. diesel, to be injected, during direct injection to a cylinder on a pressure level above a maximum pressure of a cylinder head. Heat energy is supplied to the cylinder head before the injection of the fuel, where the heat energy raises fuel's temperature approximately up to a pressure-dependent boiling temperature of the fuel. The temperature is large enough that no pre-evaporation of the fuel takes place before injection, between pump and nozzle. The pressure of the fuel and heat conduction to the fuel are raised so far that the fuel completely evaporates.
