The system (ASS) has two drive units (eM, A-p, A-T) for a turbocharger (T), where the system continuously determines a measure for the overall efficiency (wges) of a motor vehicle for each drive unit of the turbocharger. The system adjusts usage of the drive units during operation of the turbocharger, and switches between the drive units of the turbocharger depending on the determined overall efficiencies.
