The device (12) has deflection pulleys arranged at a distance from each other and rotatably supported at an end of an elongated, shape-stable carrier profile (16). An endless conveyer chain (26) is continuously arranged along the profile, and partially wounds around the pulleys. An upper run (28) of the chain is supported at a supporting unit approximately provided over the entire length of the chain. The supporting unit is attached to the profile. A lower run of the chain is formed in a support-free manner.
