The system has a rotating device for rotating a ceramic ball (1) to be tested, where the rotating device has a drive roller (2), a supporting roller (3), a control roller (4) and an eccentric worm gear (5). The ball is immersed in oil in an oil tank (20), such that the ball is scanned along its meridian. An imaging unit has a digital camera (7) and a lens (8) for imaging an entire surface of the ball, and an image processing unit processes an image recorded by the imaging device. A personal computer (9) evaluates the presence of defects in the ball based on the image processing data.
