The device has a tubular shaft, and jaw parts (10, 10') provided at a distal end of the shaft with corresponding clamping surfaces. A pivot (40) is provided for rotatably supporting the jaw parts such that the jaw parts are brought from an opening position into a closing position for fixing a tissue with the clamping surfaces. The pivot is formed in such a manner that a rotational axis (1) of the pivot lies outside the jaw parts and distal ends of the respective jaw parts are moved away from the distal end of the shaft during opening of the jaw parts. An independent claim is also included for a medical device comprising a proximity sensor.
