The method involves requesting a voice over internet protocol (VoIP)-connection to a target user at an end device (20). A determination is made whether the user is actually connected with an internet (55). A VoIP-connection is built from the end device over the internet for the user if the target user is directly connected. A determination is made whether the target user is assigned to a calling number of a public switching network (50) if the target user is not directly connected. A dialog connection is built between the end device and the target user over the switching network. An independent claim is also included for a communication system for selecting a communication network for a voice over internet protocol (VoIP)-call.
