Treatment of a fraction, preferably hydrocarbons with at least six carbon atoms, obtained from the steam cracking of hydrocarbon-containing feedstock in a plant (olefin plant) for the production of hydrocarbons, comprises subjecting the six carbon fraction to a steam dealkylation process, where mainly the two recyclable products, namely benzene and hydrogen develop along with the reaction by-products comprising carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. An independent claim is included for a device for the treatment of the fraction comprising a furnace with a combustion chamber and pipes that are present in the combustion chamber.
