The sensor (1) has a transmitter (S) and a receiver (E) arranged at an end of a hollow section (2) for tactile recognition of obstacles e.g. door. The transmitter runs within the hollow section and transfers optical signals to the receiver. The receiver passes an evaluation signal to a control unit. Electrodes (3, 4) are provided in the hollow section, where the hollow section is made of flexible material i.e. elastomer. An independent claim is also included for a method for monitoring of movement directions of doors, gates and windows or moving parts of machines.
