Internal combustion engine operating method for motor vehicle, involves minimizing residual gas percentage of assigned cylinders based on parameter, and reducing gas percentage as long as parameter does not fall below preset stability limit
The method involves directly injecting a fuel e.g. petrol, into a combustion chamber (12). The injected fuel is ignited by self-ignition, and a parameter characterizing the stability of combustion of an air fuel mixture in the combustion chamber is determined based on variance of work delivered by an internal-combustion engine (10). A residual gas percentage of assigned cylinders of the combustion chamber is minimized based on the parameter. The residual gas percentage is iteratively reduced as long as the parameter does not fall below a preset stability limit. An independent claim is also included for a computer program that it is programmed for executing a method for operating an internal combustion engine.
