Ring-opening polymerisation of cyclic esters, involves using a catalyst system containing a catalyst, plus an oxazoline or oxazine compound as first co-catalyst, and optionally a second co-catalyst. A method for the ring-opening polymerisation of cyclic esters by (a) making a reaction mixture containing a starting material with one or more cyclic esters and a ring-opening catalyst system and (b) heating the mixture at a given temperature for a given time. The catalyst system comprises a catalyst, a first co-catalyst of formula (I) or (II) and optionally a second co-catalyst. R1-R4 : H, halogen, OH, or optionally substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl, alkylaryl, alkoxy or carboxyalkyl; R5 : a 1-16C aliphatic group (linear, branched or cyclic), a heterocyclic group with 5 or 6 atoms or a 3-20C aromatic or alkylaromatic group which may contain heteroatoms (all three types optionally substituted).
