The device has a loudspeaker diaphragm (312) that is connected with a tube (4) via a hinge (311) in such a manner that a periodic reciprocating movement of the diaphragm are transferred to an examination object (1) for generating mechanical vibrations in the examination object. The diaphragm has a sleeve that is centrally arranged for force transmission. The tube is formed in a flexible manner and is filled with a liquid. An independent claim is also included for a method for magnetic resonance elastographic determination of biomechanical characteristics of a tissue.
