Composite metal/ceramic electrode including a ceramic element and a continuous metal electrode bonded to at least one surface of the ceramic element and containing several parts. The metal electrode is made from an antioxidizing and heat resistant material. The heat resistant materials can be Al, Cr or Si, which form dense oxides. The ceramic material can be nitrides, e.g. of Si or Al, or carbides, e.g. of Si, Ti or B. An independent claim is included for a method of producing the composite electrode.
