The method involves utilizing acceleration signals (BS1-BS3) by an acceleration sensor system with two acceleration sensors for offset recognition. The offset is determined by a focal point of signal strength and/or an intrusion, where the signal strength and the intrusion are determined dependent of the acceleration signals. A portion of the signal strength and/or the intrusion of the acceleration signals are considered by a centrically arranged acceleration sensor. One of the acceleration signals is weighted such that an asymmetry of a bumper is considered. An independent claim is also included for a device for offset recognition of a collision for a pedestrian protective system.
