Production of sheet metal or sheet metal components (2) made of light metal, especially magnesium, comprises producing an extruded section (1) in an open contour in one or more preceding process steps followed by straightening and bending using rollers in one or more successive steps. Independent claims are also included for: (1) Motor vehicle sheet metal component made of magnesium or a magnesium alloy by the above process followed by deep-drawing; and (2) Instrument holder made of magnesium or a magnesium alloy comprising sections made of sheet metal by the above process. Preferred Features: A warm extruded section serves as a starting material that is molded to form a metal sheet. The sheet metal (component) is rolled to a working width of 20-800 mm and a thickness of 0.5-10, preferably 1.5-2 mm.
