The method involves connecting torsion spring, which is prestressed continuously or in stages by twisting. A vehicle axle is provided with a stabilizer (11). The stabilizer comprises a stabilizer ridge (12) formed as torsion spring lying transverse to vehicle longitudinal axis and stabilizer shanks (13,14) projecting on both ends of the stabilizer ridge. The stabilizer ridge is held in rotary manner in two separable bearings (15) in the vehicle frame. An independent claim is also included for a device for adjusting the body spring rate of a motor vehicle.
