The vehicle has traction batteries (1a, 1b), traction converter (2) and an electrical drive motor (3) interconnected such that the electrical drive motor is propelled in an operation with the electrical energy of the traction batteries. A combustion-motor driven generator (4) is activated and/or deactivated in a parking condition of the vehicle, where the generator is started after activating a combustion-motor drive (14) and charging the traction batteries. A disconnection of the combustion-motor drive of the generator is carried out after deactivation. An independent claim is also included for a method for charging a traction battery of a motor vehicle.
