The method involves directly or indirectly driving a crankshaft (4) of an internal combustion engine (2) by an electrical machine (3), and bringing an actual speed value (ni) of the crankshaft to a reference speed value. The actual speed value is regulated to the reference speed value by the electrical machine, until the combustion engine is started and obtains a stationary operating point. Arising fluctuations of the actual speed value of the crankshaft are compensated by positive or negative torques impressed by the electrical machine. An independent claim is also included for an engine arrangement.
