The method involves utilizing a program controlled computer and a label printer controlled by the computer for determining an identifier by entering the data of document in the computer. The identifier is automatically tested whether it is unique (S26). A data set is generated (S30) and stored (S32) by the computer from the entered data. A label is produced on which a part of the data of the data set and the identifier is printed.
