The method involves using a compressor (4), an air-lift pump (5) and a device, which loads the air-lift pump with compressed-air. Another device in a form of a pulsator (17) is fitted within a conduit system for supplying the pump with the compressed-air. The even resulting compressed-air is intermittently passed down on an inlet area of the pulsator with a corresponding unpressurized interval on the air-lift pump. The compressor is switched on and switched off at a certain time interval during controlling of a waste water treatment plant. An independent claim is also included for a device for optimizing a delivery rate of an air-lift pump in a waste water treatment plant.
