The system (1) or battery has a lattice electrode in physical contact with a catalyst-coating (12), and an electrode (6) in physical contact with free sides of an electrolyte membrane (11) and a dielectric (7). The electrode (6) functions as capacitor-pole plates/flanges. Hydrogen is introduced into a gas compartment via a hydrogen inlet. The dielectric is in physical contact with the membrane via an electrically conductive or non-conductive separating foil, and an electrically conductive connection exists or does not exist between the lattice electrode and the foil.
