The method involves carrying out a multiple injection, particularly a double injection after intermediate switching on the operation with gasoline in predetermined operation area. A part quantity of gasoline and a part quantity of compressed natural gas is injected in the predetermined operation area. The multiple injection is continued till the gas pressure in the gas tank (2) falls below the vapour pressure of the butane. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling an internal combustion engine of a switching motor vehicle driven with gasoline or compressed natural gas.
