The straw cutter has a chaff device (14) supported in rotating manner. A drive (10) is formed to bring the chaff device in a given rotated position. The rotated position is a such rotated position, in which a chipper knife (16a,16b) of the chaff device is accessed for a demounting. The drive is brought inside and outside of the contact with a chaff device, which is coupled with a tooth lock washer (18). The drive is formed for lifting interposition in the tooth lock washer. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a straw cutter, particularly a wood straw cutter.
