The device (1) has two timers (Z1,Z2,Z3) that are connected to a controller (4) and a detector (8). The controller is designed such that when a light pulse is emitted by a light source (2), the controller generates a start signal that triggers the time measurement by each one of the two timers and beginning again from the start. The detector is designed such that when receiving a reflected light pulse, the detector generates a stop signal that is forwarded to the two timers and that stops the time measurement by a timer. A measuring window is assigned at the detector by the controller. An independent claim is also included for a method, particularly light detection and ranging method, for the determination of distance by light pulses.
