The device (1) has a clamping section to collect a sample (2), and a piston accelerated in an acceleration device (4) via a delay block. A determination of force-displacement or force-time ratios is achieved at a constant speed during the sample collection. The ratios are achieved without overlaying oscillations from bouncing operations, by integration of a plastic impinging part using a damping element (21), and by a defined ratio of energy to fracture energy of the sample for acceleration of the sample. An independent claim is also included for a method for determining speed-dependent connection characteristic values of a sample under impact load.
