The high-pressure fuel pump (11) has a pumping element (31) for extracting fuel of a suction pipe (24) into a pressure pipe (22). The suction pipe connects a tank (23) with the pumping element. A discharge line (42) flows downstream of a non-return valve (41) into the pressure pipe. A pressure relief valve (43) and a throttle unit (47) are connected in series in the discharge line. Another pressure relief valve (45) is provided parallel to the throttle unit.
