The discharge lamp i.e. xenon high-pressure discharge lamp (1) has electrodes (20, 22) projecting into an interior space (4) of a discharge container (2), where the interior space is filled with ionizable filling gas i.e. inert gas. Ignition edges (32, 34) e.g. acute-angled edges, are formed at outer peripheries of end sections (28, 29) of the electrodes, respectively. The ignition edges are formed along peripheral edges of peripheral grooves that are arranged at distance from each other. The electrodes are made of tungsten.
