The method involves providing a regulation and monitoring device (15) for measuring and detecting flow rate of ballast water. Flow rate for a special ballast water tank (7) is adjusted based on a preset flow rate for the tank by a ballast water pump (1). The preset flow rate is stored in the device. A pressure detector (14) is provided for detecting tank internal pressure and operation with the device. The pressure is compared with a maximum value stored in the device. Flow rate for the pump is controlled by a regulating system in the device.
