The appliance has storage cells accommodated in a battery box (1.10), which has a cooling device for cooling the cells. The cooling device has an air heat exchanger for delivering waste heat to surrounding air. A fluid cooling unit is provided for delivering the waste heat to a coolant and a 3 way valve (1.30) dissipates the waste heat delivery through the air heat exchanger or through the fluid cooling unit based on need. The exchanger and components of the cooling unit are combined into a combined cooling module, which is arranged outside the battery box.
