The method involves measuring a two-dimensional image (12) of an object (10). A three-dimensional image dataset (14) of the object is recorded, where a two-dimensional image (16) is produced from the image dataset and is combined with the image (12) in a two-dimensional image plane (11). A normal vector of a surface (20) is determined from the image dataset. An inclination of the normal vector is determined with respect to the image plane and a point (24) of the image (16) is added depending on the inclination. An independent claim is also included for a device for visualization of an object with a processing device for producing an image from a three-dimensional image dataset.
