The arm rest (10) has an arm rest body (11) pivoting around a pivot axis (15) between a raised and a lowered position. The arm rest body is assigned a load limiting device that enables downward pivoting movement of the arm rest body in lowered rest position on incidence of an overload. A pressure hull (21) is arranged at a distance adjacent to the pivot axis and is movable lateral to the pivot axis by a control extension (16) supported on a control surface (20).
