The method involves providing a digitial three dimensional (3D) image of an aorta, where the image has intensities defined on 3D lattices by voxels. A lumen voxel in the image is determined, and a distance of the lumen voxel from an aorta boundary is determined. A center line of the aorta in the image is found based on the lumen voxel distance. A series of two-dimensional multi-planar reformated (MPR) image planes orthogonal to the center line is constructed. Aorta cross sections are segmented in each of the MPR image planes, where an aortia barrier is located in each MPR image. An independent claim is also included for a program storing device comprising a set of instructions to execute a method for automatically analyzing aorta aneurysma.
