The device has a contact surface (1) rotatably supported about a rotational axis (D1), and a supporting unit (2, 7.1, 7.2, 9, 10.1, 10.2) rotatably supported about another rotational axis (D2). A synchronization unit (4, 5.1, 5.2) synchronizes a rotation of the contact surface with the rotation of the supporting unit. A synchronized rotation of the contact surface and the supporting unit causes tilting of the container. The container stays on the contact surface before the tilting, such that a removal opening of the tilted container points transversely or perpendicularly downwards. An independent claim is also included for a method for unloading a container.
