The production process includes first applying a pore-forming coating, then mixing this with a ceramic substrate material, then shaping the substrate, and then heat-treating the substrate. The pore-former is coated with the substance or mixture used for the pore coating as a preliminary stage. The pore-former may be pre-coated with a ceramic material including glass formers.
