Each sidewall is a grid (8) of rods. These are spaced apart and individually connected to the base (2) and cover (11). The rods are made of transparent plastic and can be illuminated. Holes (7) in the base and cover, fit the rods, or recesses hold them. The base pan (3) is connected to a frame (4) used to fasten the rods. Numbers of bases and covers can be connected together to stack cages. Side-by-side connection is also described. A swinging door (12) is formed by connecting a transverse rod (13) to vertical rods (15).
