The device has processing stations for packing a cable (15). A supply device supplies the cable to the processing stations and is formed by a gripper with gripper jaws (4). The jaws are brought into a position, in which the jaws lie non-relocatably at the cable, and in another position, in which the jaws loosely enclose the cable without any play. The jaws are brought into the positions by a motor drive that is formed by a pressurizing medium-subjectable piston/cylinder unit. The unit has a to and fro movable piston (2) with a piston rod (3) that is engaged at the jaws and a pivot arm head.
