The device has a regulating eccentric (2) provided on a housing of an internal combustion engine, and a spring (13) producing a torsional moment and supported on the regulating eccentric. The spring acts upon an operating eccentric (5) carrying a lever arm (7) for a clamping roller (9) on an end of the spring. The spring is formed as a combined torsional and pressure spring, and the operating eccentric is subjected to the necessary torsional moment and axial force. The regulating eccentric comprises recesses or projections, to attach a tool for adjusting a clamping force.
