The method involves emitting a pulse sequence after a change of a signal level of the bivalent signal (U-signal), and counter pulses (19,21) is emitted following the pulse sequence. The pulses (18,20) of the pulse sequence are emitted directly in succession. The bivalent signal is transmitted over a potential barrier, which has a magnetically coupled pair of coils connected upstream to the input side of a capacitance. Two driving stages are required for the generation of the pulse sequence. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a switching configuration for transmitting bivalent signal (2) a magnetically coupled pair of coils comprises an input coil and an output coil.
