The cage (1) has wire frame walls consisting of two regions, which are extended over an entire height and width of the cage. One of the regions facing a sound source is a chamber (2a) with a slacky, sound absorbing rock material (8), and another region is a sound-damping and stabilized jointless base layer (3) made of monolithic and artificial rock. The base layer consists of concrete, and a flexible bearing (4) made of a foil or a technical textile is arranged between the base layer and the loose rock material in a container. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing a gabion cage.
