The device has a dipping bath with zinc and ceramic forming a bath surface, and a shielding unit (2) provided with an upper side (6) and a lower side (5). A shielding opening (7) takes shielding bodies from the upper to lower sides, where a strip (1) e.g. metal strip, is guided through the opening. The shielding unit is arranged in such a manner that a gap height extends into a direction, which points in a pull-off direction of the strip, and a part of limiting surfaces is immersed into the bath, so that the bath surface lies in the opening between the upper side and the lower side. An independent claim is also included for a method for coating a strip with zinc and ceramic.
