The modem has a wireless local area network (WLAN) access point provided with a cable or digital subscriber line modem, router and splitter subdivided in a housing. The WLAN access point is provided for a hot spot network of an internet service provider, where the access point is configured, encrypted and remote-controlled by the internet service provider. The modem is not influenceable by a digital subscriber line or cable firm end consumer.
