A sump for collecting fluids with particulate content, especially cutting fluids, comprises a rectangular tank (2) with a suction pump (3) and suction duct (4) positioned on one short side and with fluid jets (9) positioned along the long sides to lift particulate deposits off the bottom of the tank. The pump transports fluids and particulates to a pipe leading to a filtering system. A slider (8) diverts some of the fluids to a distribution duct (7) which feeds the jets. No mechanical scrapers are required. Flow control vanes (11) enhance the swirl action of the jets.
